Pictures of Old Normandy Farmhouses, Chateaus and Manor Houses

This is a photograph of an impressive Normandy farmhouse. The building is constructed in stone and exhibits advanced architectural elements includig two very large chimneys at each end of the house, and a domed tower. A farmhouse of this type would have belonged to a wealthy landowner, and contrasts sharply with a more impoverished farmhouse typically inhabited by the peasants.

Manoir at Archelles, Normandy.

Archelles is a small village near Arques, and its principal attraction is this beautiful manoir with a garden at its back, and surrounded by fine trees. It dates from the sixteenth century and is built of brick decorated in a sort of mosaic inlaid with a light colored stone. The old walls overgrown with vines are especially attractive.
