This is an illustration of a typical old Normandy farmhouses. Many of these farmhouses were built originally in the 15th or 16th centuries and would have been occupied by generations of the same family. During the fighting that took place here during World War 2, many of these impressive and beautiful buildings were used as forts by the Germans. Few of these buildings escaped without major damage, and many were destroyed.
