Falaise Castle

Falaise is where William the Conqueror was born. This imposing castle was the traditional seat of the Dukes of Normandy. The castle is built on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Ante river valley.

William the Conqueror earned the name Conqueror after leading his forces across the English channel to conquer England. His actions profoundly altered the history and development of England, leading to changes in language, culture and ethnic identity.
